About the event
Carl Collison is a freelance journalist, photographer and film-maker, who focuses specifically on producing LGBTIQ-related content from across Africa. He was shortlisted for the 2018 Gerald Kraak Award and Anthology, which celebrates excellence in queer writing and photography from across Africa. He has also been included in the inaugural #Awesome50 list, which recognises the work done by people across Africa to better the lives of the continent’s LGBTIQ people.
This year, he was included on Exit magazine's list of Queer Warriors, a list made of 20 people globally who are fighting for achieving queer liberation on the African continent. Commissioned by the GALA Queer Archive, with funding support from SAIH - Norwegian Students' and Academics' International Assistance Fund, his latest short film looks into how the Covid-19 pandemic is affecting the lives of Cape Town's homeless transgender sex workers.
