Members of the HUB and Unsettling Knowledge Production presented at the 27th Annual South African Psychology Congress hosted by PsySSA
To kick of PsySSA 2023, our very own Prof Floretta Boonzaier's gave the Presidential Address, which highlights that the theme for this year's congress, Hope and Healing. This is inseparably linked to broader social action which responds to the complex realities of all humanity.
This year's congress then showcased our documentary, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻: 𝙐𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙭𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝘼𝙛𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖: 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙢, directed by Yuri Behari-Leak. By showcasing photovoice stories, interviews, critical commentary, researcher reflections, and candid moments, this deeply moving documentary chronicles narratives of gendered and sexual violence, particularly in university spaces.

We then hosted a symposium and presented our individual projects. Aphiwe Mhlangulana presented on Representing activists: Exploring the expereince of protesting GBV. Caron Zimri
presented on Exploring Womens experiences of TBI and IPV: Exploring possibilities for healing. Sarah Isaacs and Jemma Nel presented on An exploration into the experiences of Black and Queer influencers: A decolonial transfeminist narrative inquiry. Tumi Mpofu presented their research on Researching gender, identity and violence: Reflections on radical hope and healing "The dance between livelihood and truth". Lastly, Lastly Kajal Carr
and Prof Boonzaier presented our book chapter titled Centering our-selves: Exploring reflexive research on violence and trauma, the possibilities for healing.
The symosium had a great turn-out, and there were engaging and insightful questions and comments.
